The Significance of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day – October 13

78 years ago, on October 13, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to the Vietnamese business and industrial community. The letter included the following passage: “…Currently, the national business and industry movement is actively working to achieve many beneficial results for the nation. I greatly welcome and look forward to many positive outcomes. While other sectors of the nation are working hard to secure the complete independence of our country, the business and industrial community must focus on building a solid and prosperous economy and financial system.”

To promote the role and traditions of Vietnamese entrepreneurs, encourage various social groups to contribute to the development and growth of businesses, and strengthen the entrepreneurial workforce to meet the requirements of national industrialization and modernization, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Phan Van Khai, signed Decision No. 990/QĐ -TTg on September 20, 2004, officially designating October 13 as Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day. This decision is a significant historical gesture, marking the day President Ho Chi Minh sent his letter to the business and industrial community right after the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The Prime Minister’s decision also stipulates that the annual observance of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day must be practical, economical, and effective, avoiding formalities, and ensuring the following objectives:

  • To educate and promote the patriotic spirit, self-reliance, and creativity of the entrepreneurial community; to encourage the movement of production and business excellence, and to enhance discipline, ethics, and business culture among enterprises and entrepreneurs.
  • To recognize and reward outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs who excel in their business activities, implement the Party’s policies, state laws, and contribute to the construction and development of enterprises.
